Today I done did stuff.

I did it. I took a few pictures Downtown today. A couple turned out quite nicely. If I wasn't so lazy or thought anyone cared I might post them. So if you do care let me know, then I may think about posting them.

I've found yet another device that I want. They look super cool and fun. Just what would be needed for a project or 2 that I've had in mind. Not to mention other posiblitys that keep springing to mind.

So today I vacumed, took some pictures, drank a beer, lusted after some stuff I will most likely never get or that will be a while out.

It's only 8:30 and I'm all tired. Damn party damn time change.

Murray VS Vacume Cleaner.

The Bissel won. Murry has been hiding since the vacume started. I saw him run away to a new hiding place once when I got near his inital hiding place.

I'm not working today. I should take more time off work. Historicaly the next few months will be slow. So I may not need to take more time off to remain sane. I do have some extra time off this month for shows I will be atending.

I'm working up the modivation to eat something then go take pictures around Eugene. I've meant to do this countless times now each time I fully intened to go but something like a discovery channel special or naptime seemed more interesting or worth while.

This week is the end of being Driver Ben. So I will be reclaiming a bit of freedom, although it really has not been bad at all. I figure it's Karma as I mooched rides for years before I had a license. Many rides solicited from Chris, Cat, Joe, another Chris over the years but they were not terribly frequent. I figure it's just been condensed to a month.

I've yet to eat or shower. So I'm gonna get to that. Then maybe some pictures.

Favorable Traffic.

I made it home from Portland in pretty much record time.

The whole party thing was pretty much a clusterfuck. I did have Chris calling me sir for part of the night.

Got to hang out with Kala some yesterday. Not as much as anyone would have liked I am sure but everyone had another set of plans and things to get done.

I bought a vacume cleaner. I feel like it is a major purchase in gownupness. I dont think i like it. Oh well... Tomorrow I vacume my place for the 1st time, while I'm not working.

Congrats to the Chris.

Chris is in the process of purchasing a home in Washington. Which I hope to see this weekend. As well as some old friends and a special guest from out of state who I haven't seen in well over 2 years now, namely Kala.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be getting my training next week. I talked to the trainers and will get the materials for the day I will be missing. Which is cool. How often I will get to use the training will be another question all together but thats ok.

November is nearly hear. It's been getting cool/cold out lately. But some beautiful days. Crisp, clear, brisk quite photogenic even. I'd really like to get some more photography gear like square gradual ND, and other filters not to mention a strap for my tripod.

Send(ing)mail.

Messing around with Sendmail some. I think I need to fix my DNS or trick it somehow. Or just forget about hosting my own mail server at home. Which could prove to be probelemmatic because of all the DNS RBLS and stuff like that out there. I may set up fetch mail to get my real mail and use the imap... I like imap.

today was too long. At one point I showed Adam a favorite tool of mine (winscp). Later in the day I realized I showed him that earlier in the day, I asked if he could belive it was today he stopped and pondered it for a moment. He realized it felt like yesterday or last week.

The training bandits strike again. I was offered more training. For next week. I have had Monday, the 31st, schedulded off for around a month now. So I may miss out on more training because of this or they may let me slide again and let me train on the product. Apparently it's just network stuff I will be missing which hopefuly I'm already solid enough on to not have it be a problem. This is the 3rd time in a row they have done this to me... Ben has time off? Great lets give him training!!!!

Apple Tickets

I got time of and tickets to see Fiona Apple at the Roseland in Portland on the 22nd-o-November. On the 21st-o-November.

Wholy crap I just killed the hugest spider ever. I almost took a picture of it but I decided to kill 1st and not photograph the guts on the bottom of my shoe and/or wall. Murray was interested in the spider but I think the spider may have been um one of those nasty ones.

I will most likely be treking back up to Portland on Friday or Saturday for Chris' halloween party and also some visiting with some old friends.

HUGE I tell you! HUGE!

Wicked Awesome

While in Portland Chris and I went to Mt. Tabor park we encountered a young woman who asked "Have you guys taken any any wicked awesom pictures?". We didn't have a good answer for her. But there are a few I uploaded to my Portland Gallery.

Converting the rest.

I got Chris convert his WRT54GS to the DD-WRT firmware. I got the graphing setup for him as well. But I'm sure he wont use it much, it's more for me cause I'm a dork.

We also installed a new drive in honeyryder. We are thinking about setting up a new switch while we are at it.

Maybe I will convince Chris to go someplace to take some pictures. As I brought my camera and Chris recently got some filters for his camera. So he may want to play with those some.

Color Complaints.

I've had a couple complaints about the color now. I won't be changing it soon. 1) I am lazy 2) I've been too busy to even spend time with my cat (which is sad) and 3) I don't care about colors much.

I am debating if I am or if I am not going to go up to Portland and see Chris on Saturday the problem being I have to drop and pick someone up sometime around noonish and then pick up sometime later in the evening. And I will most likely be going up next weekend for a longer stint anyways.

Work has been trying this week. Some how I got made a point man on a clusterfuck of an escalation. Nobody but nobody knows what the fuck the problem is or what the customer wants. And they hand it to ME!? Just because I kinda like the product he is having problems with. Oh and this is my 1st handling of an escalation so I am WAY out of my comfort zone. Normaly I am making the escalations.

I need a break.

It is working!

So after many hours of in head troubleshooting and reviewing of information I came up with a theory as to why the remote start was not working. It worked when we had the doors open and closed. But not locked. you see the Alarm double locks the car. Which kills the ingition switch/starter. So the remote start works if the doors are not double locked. So now I have a proceedure to have it work unlock, start, relock, wait until time to go, unlock, get in and go.

I'm not sure if this is a) a design flaw in the alarm b) something that a previous owner has done to my car causing the problem c) something we missed, which i doubt at this point, d) tapped a wrong cable for starting e) all of the above.

I swear it was working

I swear the remote start was working. Now it is not. We found the problem to be the alarm/starter did not know when the parking break was engaged. We thought we worked around the problem but now it doesn't want to start for me. It did it a couple times but it may have been in a test type mode. I think I can get the rest on my own. I may wait anyways. But I have seen it start and stay started. I shall play more with settings and crap tomorrow.

Phototherapy.

Took some pictures Lastnight. Finally. There are a couple places down town that could be worth taking some pictures of. But I'm kinda lazy and lack modivation to actualy go to downtown and take the pictures. Which could happen someday. Seriously.

I preorded the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Vol. 4. I will get that some time in december.

Hopefuly this week will be smooth and easy. Last week was a day shorter than most weeks but still far far too long.

weakend entry

I should clean my place up some. But I'm too lazy to do so about now. I'm just glad to be at home for more than 10 min to feed Murray and grab stuff for over night.

I went to safeway and bought some food for my place. Mostly ramen and easy prep not super parishable foods. Which will mean I'm more likley to spend some time here. It's nice to be able to eat with out having to leave the house.

It's game day. So I got some time to work on stuff for my self. So far it has been getting food and thinking about cleaning up. I have yet to take a shower. I could also but doubt I will get around to dealing with the remote start in my car. I will most likely take it to chris again or see if he comes back down and we have enough day light to work on it.

Paid to Pay.

It is weekend. I have been paid. A couple of my services have been paid off for another few weeks. Puchcahesd tickets to the Henry Rollins' spoken word thing for November 21st.

I've been at my job for a year now. It's nearly time for my annual review. This would be the 1st time I've ever had a annual review. Part of the deal is that I have to do a review on my self. Some other people will end up doing a simmilar review of me. The self review is the hard part.

I've been attemping to come up with some ideas for what to do with: my briefcase computer, and a wireless acess point/router. I may be able to integrate a 4 or 5 port switch. Something useful would be a plus. As I don't really have a need for a breifecase counter strike server like it was orignaly built for.

Nothing but Nothing.

This week has been go go go. Right now nothing but nothing sounds good. But I've been playing some mario and had beer.

Tomorrow is paid day. Then I should have money from stocks to pay all my stuff here very soonish.

This weekend could be busy too, too busy. But that ok. I don't think I would want to be a driver for someone else that was like on call when ever.

16 bit Glory

I've been playing Super Mario world on the 16bit clear through. Its a good game. I have been using the internet to find all the secret exits.

Dusty more info on snmp awaits you if you really want to know. Then I use the SNMP on my router to poll er pull information from the router to build graphs with MRTG that look something like a historical graph representing the data being gathered. In my case bandwidth. The information is recovered with snmp requests for an OID which will return a integer value to MRTG to graph. The long ugly numbers in yesterdays post were OIDs for the network interfaces I wanted the information from.

WRT54G SNMP OIDs

So the OIDs listed here are pretty much wrong. These are the OIDs on my WRT54g running the DD-WRT firmware that allow traffic graphing of the various network interfaces. On my WRT54G they are like this:
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.1 ifInOctets.1 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.1 ifOutOctets1 loopback
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.2 ifInOctets.2 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.2 ifOutOctets2 unused vlan?
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.3 ifInOctets.3 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.3 ifOutOctets3 unused vlan?
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.4 ifInOctets.4 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.4 ifOutOctets4 unused vlan?
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.5 ifInOctets.5 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.5 ifOutOctets5 eth0
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.6 ifInOctets.6 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.6 ifOutOctets6 eth1
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.7 ifInOctets.7 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.7 ifOutOctets7 Vlan0 LAN
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.8 ifInOctets.8 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.8 ifOutOctets8 Vlan1 WAN IP
.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.9 ifInOctets.9 .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16.9 ifOutOctets9 br0 LAN IP

Just in case anyone was wondering. Which I somehow doubt. But I hope this post may be helpful to someone someday. But chances are if you know what an SNMP OID is you don't need my damn help.

Tracking the Traffic

So I think I got my MRTG configured properly with my super cool WRT54G running a custom firmware. The problem with testing with MRTG is it takes 5ish min for anyhting to show up for data so it kills me to wait and see then to make a change or a tweak often takes another 5 min to show even if you manualy kick off the damn command.

I've also got a whole host of other sweet things with the custom firmware like the xbox tunneling stuff for xkai that nathan wants everyone to use. So one of these days we can test it out. I think I can get chris to "upgrade" as well.

Tuned UP and New toy tonight.

Car is mostly happy. Compression on one of cylinders is a bit low. Something to watch but nessiarly a large problem. I'm gonna ask a couple guys at work who know their stuff. Nina is a happy car right about now too. VROOM! And it was cheaper than expected.

I pick my wrt54g up tonight at 7:00pm. I've got 2 here right now both will be unused so I'm thinkin I may sell one on craigslist cause I don't need it and the money would be nice too but I wouldnt expect much. With any luck I will have my traffic graphing up by bedtime tonight.

No new toy but a clean car.

I washed and waxed my car today. Shes purty. I have been not diving her much lately because of the need for an inspection and it did feel a little funny to get in and drive her today. I had been driving another car primarly as I am currently driver Ben.

I've mangaed to hold off on the linksys wrt54g so far. But damn I've wanted to go pick one up. I don't think I'm gonna be able to hold off much longer. I am thinking I may try to sell 1 or both of the wireless routers I currently have on craig's list.

I just looked at craigslist and someone is stilling a wrt54g for $40bucks near campus. I may send an email in the AM and see about picking it up. Thats $20 cheaper than any place I've seen so far.

Damn the BG2000

So I've looked more in to the snmp thing for my router. My router simply does not store nor generate the data I need. Which kinda sucks. Really makes me want to go out and get one that does. I am very tempted to so. I'm already gonna be out all sorts of money when car stuff happens monday so why not another $50 or $60? I'm planning on selling some of my stock to pay for the car stuff so whats another 2-3 shares?

Played with my xbox a little more last. Applied what looked like an newer build of XBMC but it just has more scripts. And i can't get the scripts I want running which kinda sucks but no big deal. Just something to work on later.

Sweet sweet bluetooth.

I've found a script and other information to accomplish a hack with blue tooth involving proximity that I have wanted to do for a while now. It's gonna time some time and money to make it happen but it could be super sweet if it works out.

I also find my self wanting a snmp compatable or modable access point or switch or router so I can play with more MRTG graphing and and such. But I am too poor and lazy to locate one and purchase one. I could get the wrt54g and load a customer firmware and hopefuly not make a brick out of it to do this. But with my car needing an inspection it will be put off for another few weeks/months/years. I had a simmilar bug around this time last year oddly enough. If anyone has manageable 10/100 wireless access point, switch or router on this list it would be that you want to donate to the benfoundation or charge me a tiny price I would be a happy geek.

Too late

Too bad I already invested in and nearly have my current alarm fully setup. Because this is my kinda watch/alarm! Seriously! Now if I could only get one in the US. And I had another car to put install it in.

My CD has arrived.

I got my Fiona Apple CD. I havent yet had a chance to listen to it. I'm making MP3s of it now so i can listen at work and in my car.

Hung out with Chris. Took advantage of the hot-tub and pool at his hotel. Tomorrow we may get another shot at the remote start now that after many hours of research I managed to find another location to tap the tach. One of those answers that I had to search for in like a hundred diffrent ways and still had to dig to find what I did get.

Made my self another MRTG config to show me the historical values of the charge and load on my APC smart ups 1400. Interested in how? Maybe I will post it someplace if so.

Taking Focus

I got my xbox media center all fixed up tonight. I think I have a couple more things that I could fine tune. But may not worry about cause I don't care about them much.

I want to focus more on my photography. I've wanted to for a while. I'm just lazy. I need to start taking mein camera with to more places and not be afraid to use it. It's a lot more camera than most people are used to seeing so I always feel like I'm going to be noticed or that I will stick out even more and draw attention to my self. I've seen plenty of things to photograph in the last 48hours I just haven't had my camera handy.

Driver Ben

So I'm going to be driving a lot more for the next month. I will be chauffeur Ben. At least I wont have to be driving my car the whole time.

Work was a little slow today. Not as slow as I would have liked it.

The remote start thing shold just be a matter of rewiring a wire or 2 from what tiny bit of information I have dug up on the process. Apprently there is another wire that is off the instrument cluster that may be a better and easier to find wire to tap for the remote start feature. Now just to find the time to do so. Maybe next monday when I have the day off after I get my car back from it's inspection.

Seasided.

Went with Nathan to Seaside. Saw a Million Dollar home. Played some games ate some pizza. Saw a sign indicating meth is a problem in Seaside.

Got my xbox media center upgraded. I'm still inthe process of tuning the settings and such.

A full week of work this week. But it may prove to be a slow week. The end of last week had slowed down quite a bit. A slow week will be welcome again.

I got nothin good.
