Moved my desk at work today. I think this is my 3rd move in a year. But this time it's quite far from where I was sitting before so hopefully this means I will not be attemping to walk to my old desk every morning for a month.
I also got a new phone at my desk. So now I've got 2 at my desk. One is primarily used for internal people who need my help (kinda like the bat phone) to call on the other is for everyone else and everything else.
I must get a chumby. I've already had about a million ideas for such a device. Once I do get one I may need to learn flash to make it do somee of the things I'd want it to do but I've had about a million ideas already.
This makes me laugh. Lots of stuff on the overheard sites make me laugh.
The weekend was great once I got passed all the traffic issues on my way North.
Saturday I took Highway 30 to get to Astoria then 101 south to Seaside. The drive was decent had some fun. There was good company and plenty of food and drink to be had at the campsite.
The drive Sunday wasn't quite as fun, but passing everyone on the uphill with a fairl loaded down car was kind of fun. I love my car.
I also got my self a sunburn. As sunscreen is always an after thought for me usualy after someone says "hey, your looking kind of red. Do you want some sun screen?" and of course the damage is pretty much already done by that point.
Tonight I'm supposed to have dinner with Collyn, who I haven't seen in a couple of years and Chris who I haven't seen in a couple of days.
The rest of this week seems like it will be fairly busy.
The drive from Eugene to Salem took around three hours. The drive from Salem to portland took about an hour and a half. A couple times I figured I died and went to traffic hell. Hopefuly The drive to seaside tomorrow will be better.
Oil in my car has been changed. Tires pressure adjusted. Other fluids topped off. Yay.
Something is weird with one of the networks at work. One mirror site in portland works great from every other network I've ever accessed it from it worked great. Somehow something on the test network is screwing things up. It's really kind of annoying as I dont want to have to burn everything to disk or transfer it on an external drive to get stuff done. So far I've managed to get it to work by attempting the same download over and over until it works right...
May skip the run tonight. Going to the barn. Haven't been in like way too long.
I was just killing some time over at digg and found an interesting service for instant messaging. It's called radiusIM. From the look of things it just shows you other members by location. While I think this is quite cool and could be useful for meeting new people based on location.
I don't think it will be catching on. For starters it does not appear to integrate with an IM client, as it i,which means having to log-on to a website for the service. This lack of integration also most likely means it will not know your location automagicaly if you sign in at a different location so for those who travel frequently would have to update their location if they want to be accurately reflecting their current locale. I don't know about you but I don't really care if someone knows what part of town I live in, but I am a bit more concerned if my specific block or neighborhood is being broadcasts or made available to anyone who wants to know.
I haven't signed up for the service. So I don't know if there are any privacy options or any other options for the application. But I don't see a very practical or useful reason to use it aside from just being social with people nearby or in a specific area that one may be interested in.
Also I noticed their flash demo uses only names of South Park characters...
Was in training all day at work. It was lame training. Have it again tomorrow hopeufly it's not as lame.
So they didn't have the right oil filter on hand so rather than have them change the oil and not the filter I'm gonna take it back Thursday to get it all done at the same time. The first time this particular place has failed me so I'm a bit annoyed. But I shouldn't expect much less considering how the rest of the month has gone for my car. No matter it's gonning to be taken care of within the week.
Friday I'm going to Salem to visit Catherine and then to Vancouver to hang out with Chris and crash there before heading to Seaside on Saturday.
Got a call from Cat and Rae last night around 10. I had been pretty much prepared for bed at that point. So I got dressed again and went to pick them up. Took them to Highlands as it's one of the only bars I know and they wanted to go to a bar. We sat around and talked about recent happenings or planned happenings for our 3 respective love lifes. Rae has a guy coming over from England, Cat has a boy in DC that will be coming to vist in October, and I answered questions about what I've been doing and dating etc etc.
Ended up getting home a little after midnight. Which is fairly early considering the last couple weekends.
So I've managed to keep up with my goal of at least one photo per day on flickr. While the task hasn't gotten become more diffcult it's become less appealing with the loss of the Nikon.
The loss of the Nikon means I will have to use phone camera or my Digital Rebel for all the rest of the shots. Phone cam takes very low quality images, and the Rebel is a pain to haul around and not exactly pocket sized. So needless to say it's size means it stays at home most of the time.
My flickr calendar for August..
I've forgotten a lot of the details. But here goes.
Class fieldtrip, for a college course I think. Led by my high school German teacher. Kind of in off the beaten path kinda place had beutiful sky and moutains near by. We got to some area where there was a bunch of water that was off limits because they belived it could have been the oragins of life at one time or at some point, apprently the condtions and things there were just right. Well a fucking bear shows up on the other side and I kicked off my flip flops and jumped a barrier to put a few more feet between the bear and my self. The teacher tried to calm me. Well it didn't matter how calm I was cause the bear and wolfs and shit were chasing me moments later. I had been snapping pictures of stuff on the hike/walk to the facility/area we were at, near an observatory of some sort. So I ran and ran fast, this time I was able to run, many of my running dreams I move super slow like I'm sinking into the ground as I run. But I was moving fast and the bear backed off but there was a fox and or a wolf or something else after me as well. At some point I stopped as I realized their size was much smaller than mine and there was no longer a bear so I ended up smacking both animals on the nose and they left me alone. Then I woke up....
Oh ya I was attempting to take pictures of the animals chacing me while running. Also I do not own a pair of flipflops.
Welcome to Saturday.
I'm up so I thought I'd say hi.
May see Catherine today. She has been gone since early summer on an internship for legal goverminty type stuff...
But It's bed time for me.
I ran 1.5ish miles last night in less than 15min. I guess I'm not quite as fat and out of shape as I previously thought. But it is far from where I used to be. I used to do 3.1 miles in just less than 20min I think someplace in the 18s or 19s maybe less I don't really remember as that was so long ago.
I'm thinking I may get a heart rate monitor type watch with some other features to perhaps track progress... If I do keep this stuff up.
I've still got a vox invite. NiteMayr has a few as well. If you wants one leaves me a comment. kthanksbye.
Still smoking. I think I'm gonna leave work early tomorrow and take it back in maybe around lunch time... I'm getting quite annoyed with this whole situation...
That is all.
Ran another 3.something miles tonight. Hopefuly I don't regret it later. But being healthy and stuff is good.
Also got the Miami Vice Sound Track. It's pretty good. I think it was worth it for the Felix Da Housecat version of Nina Simone's Sinner man.
I've been posting more over at vox recently. Vox is pretty sweet.
I will most likely never say this again but this post alone makes Nathan a genius.
My car has been smoking since I got it back. I called the shop who did the work we speculated that it was just oil from the procedures being burned off the block as it did involving removing the vlave cover. But after the trip to portland and back it still smokes. So tmorrow I make arrangements with shop to have this this fixed and arrangements with Nathan to get rides for another day or two.
I'm geting quite annoyed by this shop at this point.
There is a great soda machine at work. NiteMayr and I call it the show. It's got little robotic cup that grabs the soda of your choice and drops it into a door and the door spins around to allow access to your soda. It's no where near my desk but I walked to it just to get a second Moutain Dew ealier. So I have a bit of a buzz from that...
Ran a much more reasonable 1.5 miles tonight... An awesome night out. I went out just as the sun was getting below the horizon and by the time I was done street lights were on. The air was cool and full of smells that trigger memories of running in Salem at Bush Pasture park.
Last time I ran it was therapy. This time it was more of an itch to be scratched.
No love for Ferrari's here in Oregon. If had known such an event was happening I may have gone and watched and attempted to take some photos.
Alls I got to say is the US has far too little love for cars. Can't drive fast really anyplace other than a track if you can get on one. Also all the stupid damn saftey laws. If I want to buy a car that will kill me, let me. Italy and Germany have some car love and you can tell by the cars they make. Sure we have a couple one offs but both Germany and Italy have companys that make nothing but go fast cars, Porsche and Ferrari just to name a couple.
Maybe I should move.

This morning I setup Domino Admin on my laptop for my home server.
Except I wasn't at my laptop. I was at work accross town... I tunneled a RDP session to my laptop using putty, ssh via my linux box. Then copied the admin/client install file to my laptop from my server. All this was easy, I do it all the time.
Then I needed my user.id file from my desktop box which is already configured with the Domino Admin but not for remote desktop. Nor does it remain on all the time like my laptop so it was it was off. This is where I had to get a bit creative/geeky.
So I found and installed a Wake On LAN. The WOL program needed an IP address and a MAC address. I didn't have either so I looked at my server's samba log to get the IP address and the DHCP log to get the MAC address for the IP gathered from the samba logs. Then sent the WOL packets and a few moments later my desktop box was up and I was collecting the user.id and my domino admin install was completed and functioning on my laptop.
Now I can do more work for work at home from work.
There is an Article over at autoblog. That counters what Adage was saying earlier this week. So BMW will not be changing their slogan/motto. They will remain with "The Ultimate Driving Machine". Which makes me happy.
That is all.
I've still got a vox invite and NiteMayr has offered his up as well. So if I run out I will give him your email address and he will send the invite.
One of the bigges things Vox has going for it is all media stuff built in. Can link books, music, movies, photos all from places like amazon, youtube, and flickr with out having to leave the vox interface or editing any html, just search and select really. It also will allow one to deny access to certain posts depening on what you have the privacy set to, much like flickr with it's contacts, friends and family.
So I've pretty much run out of clothes to wear to work. I've got some stuff suitable for weekends. And I could get by a few more days but I would be more dressed up or down that I'd like to be at work. But as it has been nearly 3 weeks if not more since I did laundry and nearly 2 of those I haven't had my car so once I get my car back thats what I'm going to be doing, lots of laundry.
So far I've managed to take or have photos taken every day of august. My plan is at least one photo taken and uploaded for each day of August. I may go a couple days with out uploading depending on where I am or what I'm doing. But I want to see every day on the Calendar view with a photo.
I think I may have overdone things over the weekend. Last night as I was preparing to go to bed early to catch up on some sleep that I had lost from the events of the weekend I noticed my throat was feeling a bit sore. Not bad just a little sore. So I gargled some mouth wash as I don't really have anything else and I figured it may kill something living back there.
Slept pretty good but still had a slight sore throat at work and as the day wore on I wasn't feeling any better. The good news is I don't have a high temperature at this time. So hopefully it will all pass soon enough.
I got an invite from nitemayr to join vox. While it is a social networking it's focus is on content not on the people like the other networking sites.
I joined. I have 2 invites, so if you think you want to play too leave a comment.
BMW to drop "the ultimate driving machine." says this Advertising Age article. I'm disturbed and annoyed by this... Now it's about wha they are about not wabout what they do. The new "A company of ideas." EVERY company is a company of ideas!
I should get my car back Wednesday or Thursday. I'm kind of excited about that for a couple reasons. 1) It will have been over a week since driving so it will kinda be new and exciting. 2) Theoreticaly my car will be running better than she was when I dropped her off so it will be even more fun.
So my weekend was good. Had a good time seeing a couple friends I haven't seen in a while. No regrets, just a slight case of tiredness from lack of sleep which is still way way better than a hangover. I was a only slightly apprehensive about visiting as it had been years since last contact so it had potential to be akward, but it wasn't akward at all.
Had a bit of random type fun that I had bitched about missing out on last week. Most of us crashed at Kristyns place after drinking and more drinking. Next day we got breakfast at Ihop then to a movie. None planned more than a 40 or so min in advance...

I miss the days where my friends would just show up at my door and we'd go do something. Wether it was Chris, Cat, Joe, Stephanie and Steve, Chris E, or Megan or any assortment of them showing up and dragging me out to go do something. Sometimes I didn't want to but I'd go and often ended up having a good time or at least out of my bedroom in the basement.
But it all kinda stopped or at least slowed way down once I got a real job. Also all but of a couple of the people on the list left Salem, other left the entire state. Then I left the city and pretty much started over. I'm still friends with many of the people on the list but none of them are near and none of us hear a whole lot from eachother.
But these days most everything is planned out usualy by at least a day if not a week. Once in a while just by hours. Rarely less.
I do find my self often making things happen like my randomish trip to the coast last weekend, or trips to Salem the week before. But it's just not the same as having someone else show up and visting and/or going to do something.
Random camping trips planned not but hours or moments before we were loading up in the car and driving to Silver Creek Falls. Other times it was trips to the coffee house cafe or random trips to take pictures, or coast, sometimes even shopping at winco where Chris and I would attempt to roll tuna cans as far accross the store as possible while the others shopped on and we goofed off.
I wonder if it's possible to build relationships like those as an adult. Pretty much everyone I know has a job, many married, some married with a child or children. None of those things are nearly as conducive to random outings and adventures... Or maybe it's just me.
I had plans for the weekend. That were dependent on me having my car back. Well I'm not gonna have my car back but I really don't wanna stay in all weekend. So I'm thinking I'm gonna make it to the planed event anyways.
I had thought about taking a plane to Portland just for the story of taking the plane to Portland from Eugene. But it will most likely be an Amtrak bus to portland tomrrow then have Chris pick me up and come back on sunday via train or Amtrak bus as well as I refuse to ride greyhound... I don't think it's going to end up costing much more than the gas would cost me to go so I really don't have much of a reason to not go for it.
Also Nathan's Exploder broke today. His AC compressor was smoking. I added a couple of blury photos of it smoking to flickr. I think Nathan should sign up for flickr.
I updated to the lastest firmware for my phone. I lost a few settings and all my voice tags and a few pictures. So I've got to say a bunch of names again to train it, I've also got to find and install a suitable theme as the default hurts my eyes. I've also gotta set my notification sounds and rings up again.
I also installed an app to over clock right from the today screen which is awesome.
Just talked to the people with my car. They have to replace some of the stuff in tha VANOS unit as its not keeping the proper pressure on one of the timing chains. The shop still has to get the part and what not so it's most likely going to be Monday before I'm self-mobile again...
Maybe it was my call from Sam. Maybe I just wasn't tired enough. Perhaps the cosmos or maybe even the earth quake in Portland kept me from sleeping for a damn last night. I kept waking up and waking up and laying there tring to sleep after waking up.
Then I somehow slept through my alarm Nathan called to say he was on his way to get me was my wake up call. I just put some clothes on and headed out to meet him. I had some crazy dream too but I've pretty much totaly forgotten it already.
My phone told me it was Nitemayr. But I guess he was hanging out with Samuel L. Jackson. Because it was Smauel L. Jackson on my phone. He wanted to tell me to skip work to see his latest movie, Snakes on a Plane. I was laughing my ass off by the end of the call.
If you want Sam to call someone for you and tell them to drop whatever it is they do go here...
I'm not sure what I was thinking. But I went for a 3.25ish mile run according to gmaps pedometer. I know why I did it and I got what I needed out of it. The good news is I'm not super sore today, a little tight and stiff in the legs but not bad...
I stayed up too late as well and had a couple of drinks that I perhaps should not have had. So my head and stomach feel a little funny right about now. Not to mention being a little bit more tired than I typicaly am.
So I was poking about at Amazon and noticed a Plog thingy. My plog told me that Mr. Gibson is expected to be releasing a new book sometime mid 2007. So I know I will be reading at least one piece of fiction in 2007.
Yay.
As my car is in the shop and there was a break down in communication with Nathan for my ride to work today I was a bit later than I had planned on being in. I made it in just fine but I ended up taking the bus to work. Nothing really interesting to speak of on the bus ride to work.
