Microsoft's newest OS was let lose upon the world today.
I'm not sure I'm going to adopt it any time soon. I've never been an early adopter to the latest versions of windows. I waited as long as possible to get off of 3.1 to 95 and held on to 95 until sometime in 99 and held on to 98se until sometime in 2000 or 2001 and windows 2000 until 2003 or 4 if i recall. I have considered making a total switch to Linux and keeping a virtual machine of windows XP around for those must use windows times. I don't think the switch would be too hard to make. I had gone a few weeks in spring 2000 with just using Linux on my home box and things have improved leaps and bounds since then.
If I could afford it I'd consider going mac.
Melanie and I put my changer on eBay yesterday, using her account.
Today as it was retrieving my laptop from the trunk of my car I noticed my trunk seems strangely naked/empty with out it. While it was out of the way but in plain view. While I was walking into work my phone buzzed at me indicating I had a new message, this time it was an email. The email was from Melanie and the changer had sold for the buy now price of $150 which is a pleasant surprise. Yay for Ebay.
Anyone want to buy an Alpine CD/CD-Mp3 Changer? I'm gonna be selling my CHA-S634 as I no longer need it because I have an ipod interface now. It has an AI-net cable and an extra 6 disc magazine. Never had a problem with the unit. Will work with any Alpine head unit with AI-Net can work with the older mbus systems with an adapter. I still have the mounting brackets as well.
Saw Smokin' Aces. Good movie. But really not the action, comedy the trailors lead you think it is. Not a lot of action action but some action. More of a crime drama, suspence thriller, with a couple of twists one of which we figure out quite early but the other I didn't see coming.
After the movie I met up with Melanie and we went for a run then to dinner. Which I messed up for my self by ordering something that had a lot potato with it. I really should have read the description on the menu.
Today I cleaned things up a bit and took a nap with Murray Cat.
I need to pull the old changer out of my trunk soonish and maybe sell it on ebay or craigslist.
I've kind of had an urge and realization that I need/want to get out and capture some light. By that I of course mean take some new photos. The weather is starting to pretend like its going to let me and daylight is slowly but surely lasting longer and longer.
Tomorrow I'm leaving work early to catch a Smoking Aces. Been looking forward to seeing that one for a couple months now.
Work has been somewhat busy today and yesterday as well. I suppose I got used to the holiday slump that we seem to be coming out of.
Rogue Rum isn't quite up to the quality I think that their beer is up too.
That is all.
Went for a run for the first time in many many months. So far I'm not sore or otherwise in pain from it.
The other notable thing about this run is it was with Melanie. She is somewhat of a fitness buff. Goes to the gym pretty regularly and sometimes even a couple times a day. Where as I don't go to the gym and the most regular workout kind of thing I do is crunches, sit ups and or push ups, rarely all three in the same day... So I may have a running buddy now if the running thing keeps up. Which would be fine by me.
I've been getting worse and worse about posting recently. This is because I've been spending a fair amount of time with a girl I started seeing in December. Her name is Melanie. Things have been going pretty well.
I think it may be time to think about replacing my desktop computer. It runs great/fine when it runs which it always does. But after pressing power even with no devices other than a monitor attached it just sits there and then eventually comes on when it decides it's good and ready, which is quite annoying really.
Perhaps I will build my self a new system with my tax returns...
So last week I got an Ipod. This week the case I ordered from Ifrogz showed up, it's a clamz. It looks pretty good but has a pretty significant design flaw. Yes the dock port is accessible and one can plug the cable into the ipod. But the hinges prevent one from unplugging the cord once it has been plugged in one must open the case and partly remove the ipod from it's protective housing to remove the cable.
Today I'm gonna look for and maybe get a new ipod case.
Back from my 4 day weekend.
Saturday I didn't do much. Sunday I helped at move 4 tons of hay at the barn. Monday I turned 25 and hung out with Chris and Melanie. Tuesday I put a desk together and saw Children of Men, I think Clive Owen is underrated. I also saw the Inside Man at some point but that may have been Friday.
I took monday and tuesday off. So I have a 4 day weekend. In honor of my own birthday.
I stayed up too late last night and then got up too early today. So I'm a bit tired today. But it was worth it.
So a while back I setup a nifty little mp3 downsampler that made streaming mp3s take less bandwidth for Chris and I on the server that lives with him (Honey Ryder). It helps prevent so much buffering, and allows more than one person to listen at a time if such a thing happens which used to happen quite a bit...
Well Chris told me that it wasn't working recently. I checked it wasn't. I poked and prodded some, still didn't work. I couldn't think of any upgrades or config changes I had made recently to break it. I tried it with and with out a proxy server. I contacted the developer. Called Chris had him try it locally with no proxy or anything other than a switch between him and the box, didn't work.
Today I decided to setup a machine (a virtual machine) with the same OS as the problem server and try to do it. Well it worked flawlessly on the 1st attempt. So I replaced the configuration files on the server that lives with Chris with the ones from my fresh one and it started to work. After making a couple minor changes to the new config files and more testing all is still working.
I win.
Another reorg going on at work. I can't say it makes sense to me right now. I hope it will later on.
Change is good. Right?
It's now 2007.
Went to Portland for a few hours last night. But was back in Eugene for the countdown. Didn't quite misplace my car I took note of where I parked but it still took a little while longer than expected to find it. I only know portland well enough to get lost and unlost really. But not really find many destinations that are not huge land marks.
Anyways Happy New Year.
