Stop The Spying

Stop The Spying

The idea is to not just tell congress but show them we are against teleco amnesty/retroactive immunity that could be provided if the new FISA bills pass into law.

The idea of retroactive immunity for what they did is ridiculous they should be held accountable for their illegal actions. Not to mention such a law would undermine the constitution.

Snow Ventures

Once at my place I picked up a change of clothes and checked the forecast again which depending on who you checked with was calling for winds anywhere from 8-35mph for Eugene.

It rained. This morning there was no more snow on the ground than there had been last night, hell there was far less on the ground. Also there were no obvious signs of a wind storm, no extra debris on the roads or on top of the snow.

The new question is. Will it really snow again today or tonight as the weather clowns think or will I be ok to stay at home tonight?

Snow In My Valley

Around 7:30-8ish we decided my hill was semi safe to escape via car. So we drove to Andrea's place downtown and stayed there for the night so we could make it to work with a bit less drama. We made it with no drama and just took it slow. If it doesn't improve by this evening I will have to hike up my hill to get some more clothes for another night at Andrea's place.

More Filibustering

Senator Dodd is at it again trying to prevent the decay of our constitutional rights and rights to privacy. By not allowing retroactive immunity and other and attempting to fix the FISA laws.

I feel it would be a HUGE blow to our rights if retroactive immunity is granted and other changes to the laws are passed. Thankfully there are a few Senators and Congressmen who feel the same way I do and are fighting for our rights tooth and nail.

Weekend Update...

Went to Vancouver/Portland with Andrea for the weekend to hang out with Chris and Jana and do something for our January birthdays. Myself, Jana and Andrea all have January birthdays. We all drank and played games on Saturday evening. It was pretty fun. I managed to beat Chris and Jana while I was drunkish at Wii Tennis.

Saturday I picked up a Nikon S50 at Camera World. So far I like it quite a bit. It's a decent enough walk around camera in a very small package, it has image stabilization which is very nice to have. I haven't had a chance to unload the camera to see how the photos look if I have any good ones I'll be sure to put them up at flickr.

It was cold over the weekend but apparently its supposed to be even colder during the week down in my part of the valley. Which if it stays dry will be fine but if it turns to wet and cold week there may be some problems from ice.

Hang Up and Drive?

So on my way home from work I get behind some jackass who has a "get off your cell phone and drive" sticker in the window of his canopy on his stupid truck. First thing I thought was "some people have trouble but not all do with driving while on phones" hell some people drive better, I do know some who are worse while on the phone. Anyways I'm behind him to get on the free way and the guy completely fails to signal to get on the freeway.

Here we have a guy who is so concerned about what people are doing while they are driving that it may cause some to drive poorly. Presumably making them not signal and drive somewhat erratically because they are distracted... Yet this guy fails to signal while not on his cell phone and it looked like he had both his hands. Then once on the freeway he did it again.

Failing to signal is normally no big deal on its own to me. But if you are broadcasting to world to concentrate on driving. You should set an example and signal and be a good driver your self!

Oh and his plate number was XBN 450...

Debt Free

Paid my car off today. I got it 4 years ago to the month. I think I took delivery on the 24th so I'm only a few days early on my autoversary. It's been a good 4 years so far, there have been some repairs and problems here and there but nothing I wouldn't do again considering how much enjoyment I've gotten from my car.

The paying off of my car also means I am out of debt, aside from my recurring bills.

iTunage

I recently got an iTunes gift card. Which is awesome and exciting. But at the same time a bit scary and intimidating. Free music is good, but I have nearly an overwhelming amount to chose from.

iTunes also allows one to buy a track at a time, rather than a whole CD at a time this is also strange to me. I am used to buying a CD for a track or two that I've heard on the radio, tv, internet, a store, someplace then playing it and finding out a) the whole CD sucks b) the whole CD is awesome c) a couple other good tracks and getting more exposure to the artist or group in question and knowing something else I do or don't like. Where the buy a single track thing doesn't really allow for this kind of exploration/discovery. Some of my favorite CDs where bought on a chance because of a single track that I liked and having a happy accident of discovering a wonderful collection of musical gold.

I found my self looking at the iTunes essentials collections which covers all sorts of things from specific years to types of music. I started in 1990 right around when I opened my ears and started developing my musical tastes, or lack there of. It was weird looking at all the music from 1990 on in iTunes and seeing the years many tracks became popular. Really made me realize how really dated my collection is. I think I only have one or two albums from 2006 on. I may not even have an album from 2007. Which makes me wonder if it's me or the music....

Hackable Toys

Anyone who knows me. Knows I have a particular softspot for toys that can be altered to do tasks other than originally intended uses.

Devices like: Tivos, Linksys' WRT54G, Some GPS devices, iPhones, iPod Touch, The original Xbox, etc.

I've found another that could be fun to play with. Recently I stumbled upon a page with lots of great info and tools about the western digital mybook world edition. Which happens to run linux so there are all sorts of options there...

If I were to get my hands on it I'd attempt to get rsync running on it to do automatic backups of things like my photos and music and so on... I have already configured a computer to do just this for me, although only for photos. But this would be a nice stream lined self contained small device to do the same thing...
