I want to play too. Or an App for me too please?

I like taking pictures. I like sharing them. I try to use flickr to show off my better shots. which leaves for the fairly low res, poor color balance, random and poorly exposed shots from my phone or point and shoots. I know its a self imposed limitation but its a limitation.

Recently Chase Jarvis launched the The Best Camera (also a book, and iphone app, at the same time noless). The site is a photo sharing site, I'm impressed with many of the photos, and the site looks pretty damn good as well. The only problem is that it is iPhone only. I don't have a iPhone, but a G1 so I can't play...

Because I am antisocial, I am not on facebook or twitter, I sent an email to Chase asking/suggesting an android app. Not entirely sure he got the message as it was to the info account at his domain (provided form the contact page).

I am still looking for a place to put some of the random photos I take with my phone and share them for general viewing. Picassa is out because it won't let me logon with the account I need it to use from my phone, This may be fixed with an update but that may be a long ways off.

RIP HP LastJet 1200

Today my free HP laserjer 1200 started making what sounded like a short quack sound near the end of each page that was printed. I was concerned, but realized there likely wasn't going to be much that I could do even if it was dying. I thought for a while maybe it was just a quirk. Then as Kala printed another recipe for her folder the quack type sound was more of a endless squeal. High pitched, mechanical, not unlike a slipping belt in a car just from a printer. I changed the toner cartridge, punched it, smacked it, spun and moved every thing I could in, tested and repeated. Eventually I pointed the WD-40 in there and just sprayed towards anything I thought that moved. Tried again and saw a bit of smoke rise from the top of it. I decided to call its dead, unplugged and drug it out to the trash...

Just one more thing on my long list of things to replace or get.

Oktoberfest is Gone

I got to take Kala this year to Oktoberfest, something I've wanted to do for at least a couple years now.

We ate Apple Fritters, Cherry Funnel cakes, Sausages, some Russian Ravioli, and drank a bunch. We prosted and chicken danced and swayed to the bands and marveled at the feats of some of the bands. We watched people hold beer steins out in front of them until there was only one left.

All and all a pretty damn good time. We both were a bit hung over the morning after but nothing too bad.

Oktoberfest is coming.

Last week I didn't do much as I was off work and just staying at home. The week before I was busy busy at work, this week I back to busy busy at work. I am hard pressed to actually believe its Wednesday.

I am looking forward to this weekend as it is Oktoberfest. So Kala and I will head to Chris' place Friday, then the Fest on Saturday evening with Chris, Jana, and likely meet up with Joe and maybe some others. Should be a good time.

I haven't taken any photos this month so far and I'm 100% not sure why, and I don't quite like it. Perhaps I can do something about it this weekend.

Flakey

Over the past couple months I've been replying to people seeking photographers on craigslist. I think they have all responded, only one has ended up in any actual photographs being taken. I don't think its me thats the problem, as a couple have suggested dates and all but confirmed then never actually confirmed nor came through on the plans. It's annoying.

I suppose I could try posting in services and/or other sites. But I think I'd like to get a few more things to work out first and get a feel for things before doing that.

Team Oracle and Thunderbirds

Sean Tucker's Pitts Special
Originally uploaded by 007Ben
Last weekend Kala and I had a busy weekend. The highlight of which was the International Air Show in Hillsboro.

Almost immediately she found someone to go find a long time family friend. This happened to be Sean D. Tucker. Soon we were greeted by Ian one of the other members of Team Oracle. He took us back to the staging area where we talked a bit about the plane and Sean and how Kala knows him. Then Sean shows up, and starts asking Kala about her Dad and proceeds to give us signed hats and tells us to hang out with Ian. We ended up show center and were happy to just hang out there but turns out they needed a couple more people to hold the second set of poles for Sean's Triple Ribbon cut, this is why I don't have photos of Sean in flight as I was holding the one of the ribbons up with Kala.

Team Oracle has another Sean on the team but the team calls him Seamus, can't have two Sean's after all. Well he is very Irish so Kala and he bonded almost immediately, talking about Ireland, Rugby, and how Guinness doesn't travel so well.

After Sean's demonstration we went back to the hangar and talked with Sean a bit more before it was time for Team Oracle to start packing up to head home. They dropped us back off show center just in front of the announcers tower and caught the Thunderbirds before it was our turn to head back to Kala's car and make the trek back home.
